for Kryolan's Gel-Foam (Foamed Gelatin).
GEL-FOAM
Gel-Foam is a high quality foamed gelatin used to produce film and photographic quality prosthetics. Finished pieces are applied with skin safe adhesives such as spirit gum or medical adhesive. Blend edges with a brush and warm water.
- Pretreat all molds which will come in contact with the Gel-Foam with a release agent. Epoxiparafilm or vaseline may be used.
- Remove the needed quantity of Gel-Foam from its packaging.
- Heat the needed amount of Gel-Foam in a Microwave safe bowl in your microwave until melted.
- Keep watching the process until the foam starts to rise in your bowl. Do not let it boil.
- Take the bowl out of the microwave but watch out; The Gel-Foam is very hot at this point!!!
- Stir to an even consistency and to remove any large bubbles.
- Now you can pour the hot foam into your mold.
- Allow the Gel-Foam to cool for at least 20 minutes. Larger molds will require more time.
- Remove from mold and powder to keep the piece from sticking to itself.
- Unused portions of Gel-Foam may be stored and used again.
