for Kryolan's Two-Part Cold Foam System (Pint Kit).

TWO-PART COLD FOAM SYSTEM

PLEASE NOTE KRYOLAN HAS RENAMED THE COMPONENTS IN THIS KIT TO COMPLY WITH THE INDUSTRY STANDARDS. PLEASE FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS AND DISCARD OLDER COPIES YOU MAY HAVE.

This 2-part system produces a soft foam suitable for facial and body appliances. At no time should the foam in it's liquid state be allowed to touch the skin or clothing. It will permanently adhere to most surfaces. Wear suitable protection when handling. Use disposable cups and buckets to mix the foam in. Discard mixing container after each use.

This kit contains the following:

8 oz. PART A Catalyst component (this is more than you will use but for certain instances. Discard any leftover.
Each batch is made kit specific).

16 oz. PART B Base Component

3 oz. Release agent

2 x 4 oz. Drip top dispenser bottles

Set of instructions including the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).

PLEASE READ AND FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE PROCEEDING.

1.

For ease and ideal results you will need to assemble the following items and tools:
Two-Part COLD FOAM SYSTEM
Soft brush (a 1/2" wide brush works well for applying the release agent to most molds.)
Disposable paper cups.
Gram scale
Food coloring (if desired)
High speed electric drill
Wire beater (made from a piece of wire hanger)
Alcohol (for cleaning molds)
Clamps or weights to hold molds together
Warm water and liquid dish soap for clean-up
Latex gloves

2.Check Ingredients:
Part A should be the color of dark tea and the consistency of a very light syrup. Part B should be off-white in color and have the consistency of cream. The release agent should be a beige liquid. Shake all ingredients well before using.

AIR AND MOISTURE WILL AFFECT ALL INGREDIENTS. YOU SHOULD THEREFORE WORK IN A DRY AREA. KEEP THE CONTAINERS TIGHTLY SEALED AFTER EACH USE. THE SHELF-LIFE OFA PRODUCT IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE MOISTURE AND TEMPERATURE. STORE THE PRODUCTS, OPENED AND UNUSED, IN A COOL, DRY PLACE AWAY FROM DIRECT SUNLIGHT, EXTREME HEAT OR FREEZING. STORAGE IN A CABINET OR CLOSET IS SUGGESTED.

3.  TEMPERATURE: For best results the room you work in, the foam kit, and the molds should be at least 80 F. Colder room temperatures and molds can cause failure of foam in some cases. The optimum temperature for the foam and molds is at 113 F. This can be achieved by placing the molds and Part A & B in an oven set on warm. This is about 120 F in most cases. Heat until the molds are warm to the touch.

4.  MOLDS:Plaster molds must be clean and completely dry. Drying a new mold in an oven set at 200 F for several hours will speed the drying process. Air-drying a mold requires at least a day, and in some cases, several days. Moistuer from a we mold will cause the foam to fail.

5.  SET-UP:Make sure your gram scale will balance to "0". If your scale permits, balance it to "0" with the paper cup you are to mix the foam in. Fill the two plastic bottles (included in the kit) one with Part A and the other with Part B. Be sure to fill them with more material than is needed to create your piece. The bottles help in the pouring stage because an exact measurement to the drop is needed to eliminate errors. Coat all surfaces of your moldwith release agent. Rub or buff the release agent into the mold. Allow to dry. A second coat is sometime helpful to guarantee the foam's easy release. A new coat of release can be applied before each use. All surfaces which come into contact with the liquid foam must be coated with release. When the foam sets up, it will adhere to anything it touches. Be aware and careful. You must wear disposable Latex gloves when working with foam products. Note: when using a new mold or when the molds have not been used recently, a second coat of release should be used. Remember that all coats of release agent are to be thin and dry before proceeding.

6.  POURING:

Shake both parts before using. Pour Part B into the cup on the scale in the needed amount. At this time you can add coloring if needed. Experimentation with colorants and their amounts will be necessary.
Add Part A.

Mixing Ratio 35:65 A:B by weight
An example: Part B = 130 gm  Part A = 70 gm

Under the best circumstances the foam will expand seven ( 7 ) times its liquid volume.

As soon as you have poured the two parts together, quickly blend. Best results are achieved by whipping the foam with a high-speed electric drill and wire whisk.  If you have to mix by hand, beat mixture as quickly as possible. You may want to keep beating until the foam starts to increase in volume. Immediately pour foam mixture into the mold and clamp the mold pieces together. Setting time is around eight ( 8 ) minutes, depending on the heat of your molds. Setting time could be as long as fifteen ( 15 ) minutes in cooler areas. A softer foam may be achieved by increasing the A ratio. In small molds we're only talking drops. To much part A and the foam will not form a skin.

IMMEDIATELY CLEAN ALL TOOLS AND ANY SPILLED FOAM. EXPERIMENTATION IS RECOMMENDED. KEEP RECORDS OF ALL YOUR RESULTS, AS YOU USE THIS PRODUCT MORE, YOUR OUTCOME WILL IMPROVE. GOOD LUCK.
